In my last blog, I thought I was Dr. Oz. This week, I’ll be his close friend, #Oprah.
Here are my #favorite things (from #2012):
Movie
So many incredible movies came out this year, but declaring the best is a pretty easy call for me. No, I’m not talking about Magic Mike, which was really only entertaining for about eleven minutes. I’m referring to, of course, Perks of Being a Wallflower.
Never before have I felt the way I did after watching Perks. It’s an odd feeling: like a drug-induced euphoria, a terrible sadness and the way you feel when you see a cute animal all wrapped in one. Logan Lerman, Emma Watson and Ezra Miller work beautifully together (Ugh, Logan, you’re so cuteeeee) in Stephen Chbosky’s film version of his own beloved book, but do yourself a favor and go read it first.
Book
As eloquent as one could possibly be, John Green, one half of the VlogBrothers, released another incredible book last year: The Fault in our Stars.
Having authored only a handful of other books (which for me were hit; Looking for Alaska and Will Grayson, Will Grayson, and miss; Paper Towns), Green’s fifth book is absolutely incredible. The story follows a teenage cancer patient, her love conquest and their encounter with her favorite author. Trust me: you’ll laugh, cry and hunger for more.
Album
2012 was hardly what you’d call a vastly exciting year in the music world, so picking my favorite album was an easy feat. #Lana Del Rey’s freshman album, Born to Die, has won my award for best album hands down.
Loaded with tracks that can’t decide whether they’re from the sixties or today, Born to Die presents the perfect mix of creativity and inspiration. If you don’t have it yet, go score it right now. Make sure to check out “National Anthem”, “Dark Paradise”, and “Ride” (off the expanded edition).
Boy(s)
#One Direction. Do I really have to say more?
They’re über attractive, dress better than I could ever dream, have voices better than those of angels and are generally just crafted from stone. Zayn, Louis, Harry, Niall and Liam are not just the coolest kids from the block, but deserve their huge following and prestige. There are entire fandoms dedicated to deciding who’s the best and cult followings furious every time one of the boys enters a new relationship. Could you imagine if their nudes leaked? The entire world of girls and gays aged 14-24 would stop.
Man
He championed health reform, got rid of Osama Bin Laden, saved the auto industry, ended the War in Iraq and repealed Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
He and his wife are the single greatest couple alive today and he openly supports gay rights. He’s Barack Obama and he’s the best man of 2012.
That’ll do for now. See you throughout 2013. Here’s to a good year!
