Kent State Students Take Back the Night (Photospread)

Take Back the Night is a national event connecting marches in several locations around the US each year and is organized by the Take Back the Night Foundation. The organization exists to bring awareness to sexual violence. According to the foundation, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 6 men experience sexual violence. Students at used the event to burn names and photos of perpetrators of sexual violence and to share their experiences with relationship violence.

According to the Human Rights Campaign, since people face higher rates of discrimination and poverty, they are at increased risk of sexual assault. Within the LGBTQ community, trans people and bisexual women face the highest rates of sexual violence.
