Fifty Georgetown University students gathered at a campus rally Friday after a classmate was assaulted, assumedly due to her perceived sexual orientation.
Officials say the victim was walking near the university’s entrance around 9:10 p.m. Tuesday while wearing a pro-LGBT rights shirt when two unidentified men confronted her. The attackers shouted anti-gay slurs at the girl before using her backpack to beat her, inflicting minor injuries.
The school’s gay pride group organized a rally in less than 24 hours using Facebook, Twitter, e-mails, and texts.
