South African officials to open gay shelter in Cape Town

Members of the Cape Town Pride Festival and the Pride Shelter Trust plan to open a gay shelter by September, according to Iol.

Officials said the shelter, which has around six bedrooms, will house people who are kicked out for coming out, “rape survivors and transgenderd” persons.

Pride Shelter Trust recently received an endowment of some 800,000 Rand (approximately $107,723) officials will use to help pay for the shelter’s renovations, the report continued.
