If Shane Says No, Whitney Will You Marry Me?

Now don’t get me wrong, I love rock hard abs and penis just as much as the next straight girl, but there’s something about a powerful and beautiful woman who just happens to be a lesbian.

Click, click, click. I repeatedly changed the channels of my Samsung flat screen on a Sunday afternoon last semester. My hopes of finding some sort of wonderfully trashy or relatively engaging TV ended in a complete failure. I turned to the next best thing: Netflix Instant Play. I read, “Sex and the City is not available on Instant Play: enjoy these similar titles.” In that annoying suggestions box appeared the holy grail of lesbian TV series—The “L” Word. Since that day, I have become obsessed with this scandalous show. It’s the perfect mix of sex meets fashion meets awesomely hot lesbians.

Shane McCutcheon

Now don’t get me wrong, I love rock hard abs and penis just as much as the next straight girl, but there’s something about a powerful and beautiful woman who just happens to be a lesbian. One character in particular, Shane McCutcheon, played by Katherine Moening, is the epitome of the type of woman that would make any straighty go weak in the knees. Her IDGAF personality, matched with her edgy hair, rocker chic look, complete with tattoos, makes her a seriously sexy catch; she’s the ultimate bad girl. Needless to say, I’ve developed one hell of a girl crush on her character. I considered it pointless to believe that this type of bad girl existed….. until I discovered The Real “L” Word.

Kelli, a friend of mine who also shares my love for the hit drama series, and I were stunned to find a reality show with the same premise of The “L” Word aired on

Whitney Mixter

Showtime. Could it possibly be as phenomenal as the TV drama? Lesbians; check. West Hollywood; check. Drama; double check. Yep, all the ingredients are there, including Shane McCutcheon’s real counterpart Whitney Mixter. Although the edgy spiked hair has been replaced with exotic dreads, Whitney screams Shane from head to Converses. And so, my hopes that a real life “can turn any straight girl gay” lesbian existed had been fulfilled.

TV character Shane and reality star Whitney could not possibly be the only lesbians I would go gay for alive. So, the quest to find “The Whitney” began. While I have had a few close encounters with lesbians that neared “Whitney” status, they all ended in disappointment. And so, from KSU campus, to Bounce Nightclub, to NYC, the search goes on, along with a couple impromptu-shopping trips. Check back every week for fab fashion finds, advice, and updates on finding “The Whitney.”
