World AIDS Day 2011: Week of Events

Thursday, December 1st is World AIDS Day and several KSU and Kent Area organizations are putting on events all week long with one goal in mind: “Getting to Zero”.

All week long donation boxes will be set up in Health Center, The Student Multicultural Center, the Women’s Center, and the University Library.

Outreach information tables will be set up throughout the week as well, located on the second floor of the student center from 11:00am until 2:00pm. These resource tables contain numerous educational materials, risk reduction kits, refreshments, and promotional items. FACE AIDS– Kent State will be selling beaded pins.

Tuesday, November 29th will be ‘Red Ribbon’ Day. Wear your red ribbons to show support!

Wednesday, November 30th free and confidential HIV testing will be provided at the campus health center.

Thursday, December 1st, Cartwright Hall will be hosting a keynote presentation by Dianne L. Kerr, PhD from 7:00-8:00pm in the auditorium. Following the presentation a World AIDS Day Walk from Cartwright Hall to the Kent Student Center – Risman Plaza will take place.

Friday, December 2nd a brown bag luncheon with Dianne Kerr will be held in the Women’s Center from noon to 1:00pm. After 30 years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic, the 2011 World AIDS Day Theme “Getting to Zero” highlights the possibilities of zero new HIV infections, zero discrimination, and zero AIDS-related deaths. This presenta-tion will highlight the current status of AIDS worldwide and in the U.S. Participants will be given the opportu-nity to practice HIV prevention strategies with hands on activities in a casual atmosphere. Come get your questions answered and experience first-hand how we can “get to zero”.

World AIDS Week ‘Safer Sex Training’ will be held in the Kent Student Center Ballroom from 7:00pm to 8:00pm, sponsored by the LGBTQ Center.
