OKLAHOMA—Parents of a Tulsa County Union Public School kindergartener are outraged over a PBS series and demand action, according to gaynews.net.
Union Public School board heard an appeal Wednesday night from concerned parents, Don and Mary Danz, to ban a popular PBS series children’s book Buster’s Sugartime from the shelves of the school library. Their son, a kindergartner at UPS, brought home the book, which depicts Buster, the main character, visiting his mother’s lesbian friends and their children.
The Danzes strongly defended that the reference to “two moms” is not acceptable for children at such a young age. Mr. Danz, an attorney, pointed out that the book promoted, in a sense, something that is not recognized under Oklahoma’s constitution.
After consideration during a public hearing, striving to be responsible in their decisions, the board voted to keep the book on the shelves.
