GLAAD lawyer becomes U.S. ambassador

A GLAAD lawyer became the third openly gay ambassador in U.S. history Friday, following a senatorial confirmation.

David Huebner, a lawyer for the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, was deemed the U.S. ambassador for New Zealand and Samoa after a senatorial confirmation Friday.

This marks the third time in American politics that an openly gay individual has been given ambassadorial status.

Huebner was nominated in October, in concurrence with the National Equality March.
