Known for “getting down with three P” in indie film Shortbus, Jay Brannan is also an accomplished singer/songwriter. The New York native plays Columbus’ The Basement venue September 20. Tickets are on sale now, with more information available on the event’s Facebook page.
Over the summer, I attended one of Jay’s concerts, and he’s definitely a live performer to see, that is, if you like his music. The crooner often paints dark pictures while ranting about LGBTQ issues and offering anecdotes from his life between sessions. His clean sound and one-man showmanship masks any negatives, though, and his stories are often humorous, not preachy.
