“The New York Commission for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Questioning Runaway and Homeless Youth will address the problem of LGBTQ teens before they resort to running away.” The program’s plan is to provide homeless youth with housing as well as emotional support and a family reuniting service.

“New York City is one of the most tolerant places on earth, but LGBTQ youth still face daily discrimination that forces many of them to leave home and sometimes make risky decisions,” Mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

The Department of Youth and Community Development is going to be offering “drop-in-centers,” as well as independent living programs and street outreach services.
