The 10-year-old boy who refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance at school until all people are treated equal accepted a GLAAD award Saturday, Towleroad.com reports.
Arkansas’ Will Phillips, spokesperson for GetEQUAL, an organization developed by the co-creators of the National Equality March, won GLAAD’s “Outstanding TV Journalism Segment” award for his PSA addressing President Obama to fight for gay rights, the article reads.
“I took a risk and got into a little bit of trouble,” Phillips said in his PSA, “but it was for equality. And if we’re going to achieve equality, everyone needs to take a small risk and maybe get into a little bit of trouble.”
