SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus began its Freedom Tour this weekend.
Singing songs while wearing tuxedos is more than a musical tour for these men, though. They will specifically be visiting areas of the country that are known to be against Proposition 8, the plan banning same-sex marriages.
“When the tickets didn’t sell at first, I thought, ‘Oh God, no one is going to show up,’” said Amy Andrews, a welfare worker in Redding, who helped arrange the show at Cascade Theatre. “And then tickets just took off. I have never been prouder of my hometown.”
The weekend shows were both sold out, including the Sunday Chicago performance when the chorus received a standing ovation.
