About
Fusion is Kent State University’s LGBTQ+ magazine. We publish news, entertainment, opinions and interviews for and about the LGBTQ+ community. We release a print issue each semester and regularly update our website and social media channels.
Our mission is to promote equality, education and community through journalism. When Fusion was founded, in 2003, marriage equality was not yet legal anywhere in the United States and laws against consensual sex between gay men were overturned that year. LGBTQ+ rights have significantly advanced since trans women, drag queens and street kids fought back against police violence in 1959. But the community, particularly trans people and people of color, still face substantial adversity. Journalism and storytelling helps humanize the community and its struggle. By publicizing their perspectives and experiences, Fusion helps demonstrate why LGBTQ+ people need an equal place in society.
