Five men were released from jail in Kenya last week after police said they did not have enough evidence to prosecute them for planning same-sex marriages.

According to an article by SDGLN.com, San Diego Gay & Lebian News, Same-sex marriage is illegal is 36 African countries, but legal in South Africa.

While it is illegal, many couples have commitment ceremonies with friends and family.

The men recently arrested were supposedly planning marriages and were found with wedding bands.

Activists are outraged by the arrest and pointing to local religious leaders to make a change.
