The Supreme Court will hear a case concerning anti-gay protests at the funerals of American soldiers.

These protesters, from a Baptist church, hold signs reading “Thank God for dead soldiers,” and many other sayings, reports USA Today. The church’s pastor, Fred Phelps, says the soldiers are dying as punishment from God for the U.S.’s acceptance of homosexuality.

The Supreme Court will have to decide whether these protesters are specifically targeting soldiers or whether their demonstrations are protected under First Amendment freedoms.
