A new study released yesterday indicates the AIDS virus may lie dormant in bone marrow, according to The Associated Press.
University of Michigan’s Kathleen Collins and team reported in the journal Natural Medicine their findings on the virus’ ability to hide in bone marrow where it may escape current drug treatment, the article states.
Collins said that, while this is a step in the right direction, the research has years to fully develop.
“I don’t know how many people realize,” Collins told the AP during a telephone interview, “that, although the drugs have reduced mortality, we still have a long way to go.”
