LONDON—After revealing that he used a pillow to smother his dying lover suffering from AIDS in the hospital, Ray Gosling garnered attention from the media and police this week, according to The Associated Press.
Gosling, a reporter for BBC TV, was arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder for nearly two days, because of his claims he had made on the air. He was released Thursday from a police station near Nottingham on bail, according to his lawyer, Digby Johnson.
Gosling claimed that he and the unspecified man made a pact as to what to do if the pain became unbearable. He strongly believes he did the right thing and regrets nothing.
“Ray is really shattered. He is delighted to be out,” Johnson said. “He provided the police with a lot of information and they have now got to sift through that.”
Assisting a suicide is liable to be punished by up to 14 years in prison, under British law.
