Santa Rosa city council approved the construction of a gay and lesbian retirement community Tuesday, according to Press Democrat.
The project, five years in the making, was approved in 30 minutes, according to the report.
Fountaingrove Ranch officials say the new complex will house some 109 residents, a scaling back of 39 rooms from the initial vision.
Originally, opponents of the facility’s construction said the project would encroach on too much wilderness, which was thought to stem from homophobia over the project’s goal. Homophobic claims were later disregarded.
