GRINNELL, Iowa — Grinnell College‘s board of trustees named a gay black father as its next president Wednesday, according to a press release from PR Newswire.
Raynard S. Kington, M.D., M.B.A., Ph.D., the National Institutes of Health deputy director, will begin August 1, according to the release, and is married to his partner, Peter Daniolis, Ph.D., and has two children.
“His passionate belief in the value of a liberal arts education is coupled with … a demonstrated commitment to social responsibility,” board of trustees chair David White said, “and an extensive range of knowledge and experience in scientific, health, economic and social issues.”
Kington received his B.S. at age 19 and his M.D. at 21 before completing residency at Michael Reese Medical Center in Chicago, according to the press release.
Kington will be Grinnell’s 13th president.
