Gay House members say gay-friendly bills are near

U.S Representatives predict that the domestic partner benefits bill and the employment bill will be up for debate by 2010

U.S Representatives Tammy Baldwin and Jared Polis spoke at an international conference of gay politicians in San Francisco and stated that they are expecting a domestic partner benefits bill and the employment bill to read the floor by early 2010, according to an article by the Associated Press.

These two bills will protect all gay and transgender employees from job discrimination as well as provide health coverage for the same-sex partners.

They are also hoping to include a provision to the annual military spending bill that will get rid of the law that bans gays from serving in the military.

“Hopefully we will see those three pieces of legislation make it all the way, or damn close,” said Baldwin.
