Chris Kanyon, an openly gay professional wrestler, committed suicide at age 40.

In an interview with Outsports News in 2006, Kanyon spoke of knowing that he was gay when he was 11. “I was gay, that I would be gay for the rest of my life and that my life would not be easy,” Kanyon told Outsports News.

Kanyon, authorities said, died of an intentional pill overdose at his home in Queens.

Kanyon was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after his first suicide attempt in 2003. He suffered serious bouts of depression, telling family members and close friends early last week that he was going through another bout and also talked of taking his life, according to the San Diego Gay and Lesbian News.
