Mario, the venerable plumber of Super fame, turns 25 today. From his humble beginnings on the Nintendo Entertainment System–Famicon in Japan–to his latest iteration in Super Mario Galaxy 2, Mario was the first to make being a Guido cool.
With characters such as Mario’s lanky brother, Luigi, to the transgender Birdo, now household names, Mario’s creator Shigeru Miyamoto perfected the video game platformer while opening the medium to vast interpretations. In honor of the 25th anniversary, Nintendo Japan released the video above–a montage to the great porn-mustachioed Mario.
