A high school teacher near Chicago was issued a warning after using an anti-gay slur during one of his lectures in class.
The student who reported the incident said the school’s response was not enough.
“I’m disappointed at the outcome,” said senior Jordan Hunter, 17. “It seems like (district officials) didn’t take it seriously.”
Hunter, who is gay, was in class last week when his consumerism teacher at Geneva High School, David Burk, used a derogatory slang term for homosexuals during his lecture about how tax money is used for the National Endowment for the Arts.
In his written complaint, Hunter explained he was “personally offended” by Burk’s remark.
Meanwhile, Burk has sent a letter to each of his consumerism students including Hunter, apologizing for his remark.
“These words were inappropriate, and I am truly sorry for my actions. The message I conveyed was insensitive and hurtful. That is not what I had intended,” Burk wrote in the letter.
