A gay Indian professor was suspended from his job and evicted from college accommodation after students and a local television channel filmed him having sex with his partner.
Srinivas Ramchander Siras, who taught modern languages at Aligarh Muslim University in Aligarh, India, was expected to return to his job a month later after the Allahabad High Court revoked his suspension. However Monday police found him dead in his single room home after neighbors complained about a bad smell.
Detectives said they believe Siras took his own life.
Gay rights activists blame the university students and anyone else involved in the gay sex sting operation for driving the professor to his death.
“I would rate this as a murder,” Prince Manvendra Singh, India’s first openly gay royal, told the Telegraph. “These people need to be taken to task. What right did they have to attack his privacy? It was private, consensual sex and these students and television people got him to commit suicide,”
