Scott Fitzgibbon, a Boston College law professor, appeared in an anti-marriage equality TV advertisement in Maine without permission from the college.
The advertisement, called Stand for Marriage Maine, warned “Mainers” of the consequences if the November same-sex marriage ballot passes. He also identifies himself in connection to Boston College in the advertisement.
Boston College law school dean John Garvey released a letter to UWire, a FoxNews.com connection, in response to some faculty disagreement with the advertisement.

“Professor Fitzgibbon, as a member of our faculty, is free to express his views … we also have faculty members who hold a contrary view, which they too are free to express publicly,” Garvey said. “As I think any of our faculty might have done, he stated his views without prior notice to or clearance from the law school.”
