The Kansas City Chiefs running back Larry Johnson is banned from all practices and all other team events because of comments made to reporters during interviews Monday.
Johnson attempted to remove reporters from his face in the locker room, and in doing so, referenced a gay slur toward them, according to various reports. He also mentions the slur on his Twitter.
The N.F.L. and club are investigating the reports and slur more in-depth. His agent released a statement with an apology from Johnson, but the statement fails to specifically mention gays.
This is not the first time Johnson encountered problems with the N.F.L. and regulations.
He was benched last season under then Chiefs coach, Herman Edwards, for “unspecified violation of team rules,” according to The New York Times. Commissioner Roger Goodell also suspended Johnson for a fourth game for violation of the league’s player-conduct policy concerning an incident with two women at a bar. He was sentenced to two years probation after pleading guilty to disturbing the peace.
