As previously reported, New York Gov. David Paterson was asked by President Obama and other Obama Democratic officials not to run for re-election in 2010. The governor announced Sunday on Meet the Press that he plans to still run.

Paterson is a gay rights advocate but has experienced continued low approval ratings. The same-sex supporter is also legally blind and the nation’s second African American governor. In the interview, he acknowledges President Obama’s officials voicing concern over his re-election, but Paterson said he never received a formal indication from Obama.
