A report done by eQualityGiving.org scored Ohio as one of the lowest ranked states with gay and lesbian rights. Arkansas, Idaho, Mississippi and Tennessee are the other lowest ranked states. According to the report, these gay and lesbian rights include gay protections, marriage equality and the right to adopt.
Although the Ohio House has approved a bill banning housing and employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, the provision has not yet reached the Senate.
An Ask Cleveland spokesman, David Caldwell, told On Top Magazine he is hopeful this low score provides Ohio with more involvement soon.
“There’s no question that for LGBT rights supporters, Ohio is tougher than some environments, but easier than others,” Caldwell said. “For too long we’ve been patting ourselves on the back and saying whatever little progress we make is the best that could have possibly been done.”
Ohio scored a 1.5 out of 6 in the report. The highest ranked states include California, Iowa, New Jersey and Vermont.
