Tyrone Yates, Democratic Rep. from Cincinnati, introduced a resolution on Tuesday to repeal Ohio’s constitutional definition of marriage between one man and one woman. The existing Ohio amendment passed in 2004 by voters banning same-sex marriage, according to The Columbus Dispatch.
The resolution would need to pass by three-fifths vote in every chamber of legislature. If passed, the repeal would be placed on Ohio’s May 4, 2010 ballot for voters to decide.
The Columbus Dispatch also reports the repeal would be in need of large amounts of bipartisan support.
“Even if every Democrat voted yes… it would fall well short of the required votes,” The Columbus Dispatch reported.
