One-hundred and forty-five evangelical, Roman Catholic and Orthodox Christian leaders have signed a declaration of civil disobedience against cooperating in any law that supports stem-cell research, gay rights or abortion.
“We pledge to each other, and to our fellow believers, that no power on earth, be it cultural or political, will intimidate us into silence or acquiescence,” the document reads.
The declaration, which was crafted last September and called “The Manhattan Declaration,” also includes the signatures of nine Roman Catholic archbishops and the primate of the Orthodox Church of America.
The 4,700 word document is expected to be revealed sometime today at the National Press Club in Washington. Leaders said it signifies the formidable force America still has today against government intervening in the religious liberties of churches.
