Suspect arrested in horrific PR hate crime

Police have apprehended a suspect in the horrifying murder of Puerto Rican teenager Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado

A suspect has been arrested in the murder of gay teenager Jorge Steven Lopez Mercado, according to 365gay.com and an iReport by Christopher Pagan.

The suspect was arrested this morning and will be taken to a judge today to face charges. Damaris Periera, the press of the Puerto Rico Police, confirmed this. The police commander Eliezer Colon says, “The man was detained at his home early Tuesday morning. The suspect’s name has not been released because he has not be formally charged,” according to a report released by the Associated Press.

According to the iReport the FBI is now getting involved and investigating the murder as a hate crime.
