Originally charged for a misdemeanor battery, three Chicago men are now being accused of committing a felony hate crime and aggravated battery.

According to a Chicago Sun-Times article , the men, although denying the claims, were harassing a gay man, Daniel Hauff, on a Chicago train, after Hauf had tried breaking up a fight the men were having.

It is reported that the men began shoving Hauff, calling him a “faggot” and asking if they would get AIDS from the bloody nose he received.
