Three men in their 20s face sentencing for shooting a gay man in the face with a BB gun.

A video camera in the men’s car showed them targeting other potential gays in San Francisco. Despite the evidence, the men could not be charged for these crimes because none of the victims came forward.

“Normally the charge would be a misdemeanor, but with the hate-crime allegation, it becomes a felony,” Brian Buckelew of the District Attorney’s Office told the Oakland Tribune. “That’s why (the allegation) is important.”

These men face up to six months in jail, 400 hours community service and three years probation.
