The previously scheduled final committee markup on the House version of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act is now postponed until further notice. House markup was originally set to take place today.
The bill would outlaw employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in all states. The Education and Labor Committee told ontopmag.com the review has been postponed until “legal and technical issues” are worked out.
Majority of the House members are prepared to approve the legislation, which will then go to the House floor for final vote. Democrats are in favor in the House, with the committee comprised of 30 Democrats to 19 Republicans.
However, ontopmag.com reports all but three members of the committee are Democrats and co-sponsors of the bill. The article does report at least four Republicans support the bill.
