Salt Lake City approves discrimination ordinance

Salt Lake City's mayor approves ordinances banning housing and employment discrimination based on sexual orientation

Salt Lake City major, Ralph Becker, approved and signed two non-discrimination ordinances Tuesday. The ordinances ban discrimination of housing and employment based on sexual orientation.

“This is a great moment … in the history of Salt Lake City,” Becker told reporters, according to the Deseret News. “Part of our success as a community is all of us living together and respecting each other.”

His signing makes them the first in the state to prohibit LGBT discrimination.
