Oregon’s largest pro-gay rights group, Basic Rights Oregon, has initiated a grassroots educational movement to begin repealing Ballot Measure 36, the state’s anti-gay  marriage amendment.

This campaign involves a major community outreach to promote open dialogues regarding marriage rights in a variety of forums to educate the public.

According to Evan Wolfson, executive director of Freedom to Marry, “This is a concerted, smart effort to get people to talk to their friends, their neighbors, and their coworkers.”

The Oregonian stated that Basic Rights Oregon could potentially support a 2012 repeal of the state’s constitutional ban on same-sex marriage, which passed in 2004 with 57 percent of voter support.
