Marriage equality bill surmounts first stage in N.J. senate

The New Jersey state senate judiciary committee voted Monday to bring the same-sex marriage bill to a vote.

In a 7-6 vote Monday evening, the New Jersey state senate judiciary committee decided to permit a full-senate vote of the marriage equality bill.

This occasion marks the first decision regarding a same-sex marriage bill to occur in a N.J. lawmaking body.

Marriage equality supporters and opposers spoke on the subject for over seven hours before the potential legislation was opened to senate consideration.
