
Family Affairs Minister Aliye Selma Kavaf drew criticism from gay rights groups after her off-key comments on homosexuality Tuesday, Towleroad.com reports.
According to the minister, homosexuality is a “disease” that “should be treated,” quotes from the article state.
The LAMBDA Association, a gay rights advocacy group in Istanbul, is requesting the minister apologize, the article from Deutsche Welle (German Wave) states. The group is also suing the minister in what is seen as a symbolic gesture as Kavaf enjoys parliamentary immunity from litigation.
