A bill created in California says that government forms need to include questions about sexual orientation, gender identity and domestic partnership status, as to provide more information about the needs of LGBT residents and the measures the state needs to take as to ensure the community’s well-being.
The bill is being sponsored by Equality California, a non-profit civil rights organization, that, according to the organization’s executive director, Geoff Kors, believes, “This bill will improve the state’s ability to measure the community’s needs for such crucial public services as job training, and it will ultimately enable California to ensure that LGBT Californians, especially those living in poverty, receive the services they need to take care of their families and to lead healthy lives.”
Released Tuesday by Assemblyman Ted Lieu, AB 1878 will ensure full inclusion of California LGBT residents in the state’s political and social agenda and will recognize the genuine diversity throughout the community.
