Kent State will open its own LGBT center in January 2010, according to e-mail sent to LGBT minor students by Daniel-Raymond Nadon, theater professor and co-coordinator of the LGBT studies minor. The office will be housed in the Student Center.
From money set aside by Greg Jarvie, interim vice president of enrollment management and student affairs, the new center will be staffed”by LGBT affiliate faculty and will serve us as a point of connection for affiliate faculty, students, and staff,” Nadon said in his e-mail. He also mentioned the efforts of Alfreda Brown, vice president for diversity, equity and inclusion, in making this new LGBT center a reality.
Other developments announced in the e-mail Sunday morning:
– More funding for full-time faculty to teach the Intro. to LGBT Studies course
– Efforts to restructure the LGBT studies curriculum, including”adding on-line courses, offering secondary options to the capstone Individual Investigation, encouraging the addition of Special Topics courses and securing LGBT content in each of the courses on our list.”
Nadon solicited feedback from students currently enrolled as LGBT Studies minors to better shape this process.
