A New York appeals courts ruled the state has the power to annul civil unions performed elsewhere, Times Union reports.
The ruling Saturday provides more comprehensive gay rights to the state’s previous provisions recognizing unions performed out of state, according to the report.
Following September 11, the state Legislature took steps to grant equal compensation for widowed domestic partners, calling them married couples, the report states. This new ruling falls in line with previous rulings on the matter.
