Olympics announcers make 'homophobic' comments

Tuesday two broadcasters made derogatory claims during the Winter Olympics.

VANCOUVER- Tuesday two broadcasters made derogatory claims during the Winter Olympics. Now they are being held accountable. According to Associated Press, these comments targeted American figure skater, Johnny Weir and now the broadcasters feel criticism all around.

The Quebec Gay and Lesbian Council (CQGL), insisted that an apology be made to Weir by the French-language broadcaster RDS. One broadcaster claimed that Weir hurt the image of figure skating and the other mentioned he should be issued a gender test.

On their website, COGL said these claims were “homophobic” and “outrageous”.

In Australia on Channel Nine, two other hosts followed suit by teasing about Weir’s masculinity, along with other skaters. In response, complaints were  made by viewers on the subject.
