A California college, known for openness to alternative lifestyles, is the target of a graffiti hate crime. University of California at Davis’s LGBT Resource Center is covered with anti-gay slogans.

While instances such as this are typically painted over, the LGBT Resource Center is leaving it up to inform the public of exactly what is happening.

“It seems to be spreading throughout the university and I’m afraid of what’s going to happen next week” Dan Simmons, a member of the statewide academic senate, said to FOX news. “Our whole country is going through a period of economic turmoil. We’re going through a period of religious and political turmoil, and I think people are afraid at some level.”

Other crimes have occurred at the University of California lately, too. As March 4 is a nationwide day of action, campuses prepare for anything.
