Beginning today, gamers on Xbox LIVE will be able to express their sexual orientation more fluidly.

Marc Whitten, Xbox LIVE general manager,  announced in a statement on the official Web site that Xbox LIVE’s Terms of Use and Code of Conduct was altered to allow gamers to include nationality, religion, race and sexual orientation in their gamertags and profiles.

“Under our previous policy, some of these expressions of self-identification were not allowed in Gamertags or profiles to prevent the use of these terms as insults or slurs,” Whitten said in the statement. “However we have since heard feedback from our customers that while the spirit of this approach was genuine, it inadvertently excluded a part of our Xbox LIVE community.”
